Intro to Filmmaking Bootcamp July 6-10
Greetings Intro to Filmmaking Bootcamp "Day Camp" participants and parents!
We are incredibly excited to host such a talented group of young voices in Bloomington this summer and provide a wonderful experience to help you further your passion and create a tight-knit network of friendships as you explore filmmaking.
To make the most of your week, we stress that you must read this page thoroughly.
First, please ensure that the three required e-forms linked below are filled out and submitted by a parent or guardian before registration on Sunday or we cannot allow your child to attend.
The required forms can all be found here.
DROP-OFF/PICK-UP
Drop-off/Check-In
Monday, July 6th between 8:30-9am EST
Radio-TV Building (1229 E 7th St. Bloomington, IN 47405)
Please pull up to the main entrance to the Radio TV Building and park at the curb, or use the upper circle drive at the Fine Arts Building. These options aren't official parking, but could work for a few minutes. Staff will be waiting at the entrance to the building between 8:30-9am. Please make sure you leave enough time on day-one for check-in. Please make sure you have the three forms linked above completed before you arrive.
*Should you realize you will be arriving late, call Alex, assistant to the Director, at (812) 360-1886 to inform her. If you are unable to reach her, you can call Andrew, the Program Director, at (812) 856-8083.
The Radio-TV Building is also the main instructional site throughout the camp. For the rest of the week, students should report directly to the Radio-TV Building, Room 251 by 9am.
Daily Pick-up
Monday through Thursday, students will conclude each day at RTV Room 251 at 5pm. They will then be escorted to the main entrance of RTV for easy pickup.
When arriving at RTV for pick-up, you may either enter the building and pick them up from Room 251, or you may wait for them outside. There will be staff waiting with the campers until 5:30 pm. Please do your best to ensure your student is accounted for as promptly as possible. If you are unable to arrive by 5:30 to pick up your child, please email cineacad@iu.edu or call Alex or Andrew.
If you live/work nearby and you would like your student to walk on their own at the end of the day, please fill out the additional consent form on our forms page. We will not allow campers to leave on their own without your prior written consent.
Please note that your "day camper" students are invited to several evening activities planned for the overnight campers, but they are purely optional. The activities are both academic and recreational. If they elect to participate in any evening activities please email us (cineacad@iu.edu). Except for bowling, all activities are after dinner, so if your camper wants to go to dinner with the campers, they would need to bring a debit/credit card, as the dining hall does not accept cash. Dinner is roughly $17. Aside from dinner, there would be no further expense on your part for participating, including bowling--that has already been paid for.
Optional Evening Activities--if you want to attend email us and we can coordinate with you on times/pickup. The time range for dinner/activities is 5-10:30pm, but you are not obligated to stay the whole time if you want to attend a portion of the evening.
Sun. 7/5: Dinner, Movie Trivia (Collins Living Learning Center)
Mon. 7/6: Dinner, Jaws Screening (Collins LLC)
Tue. 7/7: Dinner, Final Project Pre-Production (Collins LLC)
Wed. 7/8: Bowling (Indiana Memorial Union), Dinner, Then Short Film Screening/Games (Collins LLC)
Thur. 7/9: Dinner, Final Project Editing (Radio-TV Building)
Pick-up/Finale Event
Finale Event: Friday, July 10th, from 5:15-6pm EST
Radio/TV Building - Room 251 (1229 E 7th St, Bloomington, IN 47405)
The finale event will take place in the Radio/TV Building, room 251, which is most easily accessed through the Upper East door. Staff will be there to greet you and guiding you towards the correct room. Students will be presenting their projects to friends and family. Parking and other direction maps can be found here.
There will be limited nearby parking available in the Wells Library parking spot (EM-P) spots are okay to park in after 5pm. If none are available, it is roughly a 9 minute, 0.4 mile walk from the parking garage to the finale event. Please try to arrive at the garage at least 15 minutes prior to the finale starting to give yourself time to walk over. If you are travelling with anyone who has mobility issues, you may pull up to the front of the Radio-TV Building, and our staff would be happy to help escort them to the room while you go park the car.
You will be picking up your child after the showcase.
MEALS
Lunch/Dinner
Campers will be eating lunch at the Wright or McNutt Residence Hall Food Courts (Wright: 6 min. walk; McNutt: 17 min. walk -- from RTV). Each student will be given a meal card that allows them access to the dining hall for lunch. All meals are all-you-care-to-eat, so there won’t be any issue of running out of money.
If your student wants to join the overnighters for dinner and other overnight activities, that is fine, they would just need to have a debit/credit card to pay for the meal.
Food Allergies/Dietary Restrictions
If you didn't list them on your registration form, please email us about any food allergies or dietary restrictions we need to be aware of. This information will affect the snacks we provide.
Generally, there is plenty of food to accommodate all diet types. An RPS Registered Dietician will be on staff, so please feel free to contact them prior to the session for specific dietary discussions. Customers with life-threatening allergies should use caution. Request to speak with the chef at dining locations to prepare food in allergen-free areas for your specific dietary needs.
